One of our favorite things about summer is the sort of lazy dinner picnic that really is only possible with that extra sunlight and mild weather. Easy enough to do on a weekday, an evening picnic is the perfect excuse to grab some girlfriends or make it a date night and head to your local park, trail, beach or even just your backyard. Here are some of our summer picnic essentials that make it easy to get outside in no time and catch the sunset for your next meal.

Our Picnic List:

1 – A Mexican Blanket which thick enough to keep you dry if the ground is at all damp and heavy enough to create an even surface for all your picnic fare. Plus, they come in all sorts of beautiful designs and colors that go beyond the classic gingham tablecloth.

2 – A Tote to carry everything to the perfect spot (this sweet one is currently on sale!). And incase you are the hardcore picnicker, this backpack has you covered with everything you need, just add food!

3 – Picnic Food! With summer having so many great fruits and vegetables in season, we love to bring salads and tapas-style food for casual picnic eating. Martha has some great summer salad inspiration here. Chips & guacamole are a must as well. Make your own guac by mashing a ripe avocado and mixing in chopped tomatoes, red onions, a bit of garlic, chili pepper or jalapenos if you want some spice, and a squeeze of lemon or lime. And for a fresh variation add chopped cucumbers, it is so good! Throw all your delicious treats in some reusable containers and go!

If you aren’t in the mood for cooking, just head to the local Whole Foods for some pre-made salads. After all, it is more about getting outside with your favorite people than a gourmet meal!

4 – Last but not least, wine! We love a dry Rosé for something refreshing on a warm summer evening. Bring some mason jars to sip from, they are essential for no spills! Tell help you pick out the perfect Rosé, check out this hilarious and informational wine blog for some amazing reviews.
