With Christmas creeping up on us and snow in the forecast for this weekend in Colorado, I am going to go ahead and declare winter has begun already even though it doesn’t officially start until the 22nd of December. This winter I am trying to embrace the season by being koselig, which is a Norwegian word that has no direct translation in English, though the closest word would be cozy. It is much more than that, it’s all the things that bring you warmth and comfort during the long, cold, and dark times. It could be lighting candles around your house, sharing a warm meal with loved ones, or even a simple but great conversation. So along with being koselig, here is a roundup of what I am looking forward to this winter (originally inspired by this blog post).
Eating / soups, sweet potatoes with every meal
Drinking / hot mulled wine
Practicing / not procrastinating (it all goes downhill when its dark at 4pm!)
Mastering / the perfect over-easy egg
Learning / Ayurveda (I think I am mostly Vata!)
Trying / to embrace the lull in work that comes around the holidays when you freelance
Playing / Pictionary (great throwback game!)
Finishing / Christmas shopping/crafting
Reading / Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling, and feeling bad I didn’t love as much as everyone else seemed to!
Remembering / to practice gratitude around this very materialistic time of year
Wearing / big scarves, striped shirts, and worn in blue jeans
Cooking / well baking, Christmas cookies!
Working / on a new secret project for the new year!
Traveling / to the mountains for skiing and snowshoeing
Wanting / to focus on experiences and not things
What are you looking forward to this winter? How will you be koselig, share below!
